Therapy is about relationships...
... with yourself.
There's one person you wake up and fall asleep with, who's with you every day, everywhere. Your relationship with yourself requires careful attention: sometimes investigation, reevaluation, or transformation. What's your relationship with yourself like right now?
... with others.
Spouses, significant others, “it’s complicated.” Kids, parents, siblings, third cousins once removed. Friends, roommates; a friend you’d never want as a roommate. Classmates, co-workers, arch nemeses; supervisors from heaven or hell. These relationships can be fulfilling and/or crazy-making. What do you want these relationships to look like?
... with the past and the future.
Replaying that thing [you/they] said [yesterday/in 7th grade]. Dreading the uncomfortable conversation with [parents/S.O./person you've never met]. It can feel impossible not to live in the trauma of the past or the uncertainty of the future. What would a more peaceful relationship with the past and future be like?
I'm a lifelong student of the field of relationships. Little did I know that stumbling upon the psychology section of my hometown library as a kid would set my course and career. These simple questions continue to fascinate me: what makes a relationship work? How do we live with ourselves and with each other in a healthy, more fulfilling way?
As a therapist, it's my passion to continue discovering the ever-changing answers to these questions, alongside my clients.
When I'm not studying the inner workings of human relationships, you'll likely find me reading existential literature, Star Wars fanfiction, or a webcomic; or attempting a new dessert recipe to inflict on family and friends.
